The latest addition to War of the Roses is entitled “Guns of Burgundy” and adds a new weapon type to turn the tide of the endless struggle between Lancaster and York: handgonnes, the world’s first portable firearm. Capable of cutting down fleeing foes and punching damaging holes in a knight’s shield, handgonnes come in four types and can be wielded by knights with a steady arm and reliable flint. A new map and new armor pieces are also included in this update, which is now available for download in War of the Roses.

A free trial version of War of the Roses is planned for release February 6, which will allow anyone to download and play the game without cost. The trial version will include access to all online battles, enabling aspiring warriors to fight alongside all existing players – paid or trial. The trial version will limit players by disallowing any unlocks, giving access only to the game’s base classes and weapons, giving trial players a chance to live true knighthood.

War of the Roses is a team based third person action game set in 15th century England. Two rival branches of the Royal House of Plantagenet – the house of Lancaster (the reds) and the house of York (the whites) – fight over the throne, and the player is thrown into the fray.
