Paintown

Paintown is a 2d side scrolling beatem-up engine. Paintown supports game styles similar to the Sega Genesis game, Streets of Rage 2, as well as traditional 1 vs 1 fighting games through an implementation of MUGEN. Many aspects of Paintown are customizable, from the menu system to the levels and players that can be controlled. Paintown is highly portable. So far Paintown can run on Windows, OSX, Linux, BSD, Wii, PS3, Android and other systems.

NovaShell (Game Creation System)

Novashell is a high-level 2D game maker that tries to handle all the hard work behind the scenes allowing you to focus on making games using path finding, dialog, persistent dynamically sized maps with construction/deconstruction, save anywhere, and especially features that adventure and RPG type games would use. It’s also built to allow easy sharing of games you make and modding of them. The underlying concept is everything is cut and pastable and can be added and removed even during play.

Frank Engine

2D game engine and level editor.

Frank Engine is an object oriented game development framework written in C++. The purpose is to be a fun and fast to create large open world 2D games. Everything necessary to create a fully featured game is included: physics (Box2D), rendering (DirectX), level editor, dynamic lighting, particle system, sound, music (Ogg Vorbis), gamepad input, GUI, and debug console. The code is fairly well documented and includes a simple starter project build on.

Dungeon Craft (UAForver)

Dungeon Craftis an adventure creator that is based on the AD&D gaming system.

Dungeon Craft is an effort to develop an RPG and editor that mimics SSI’s Forgotten Realms Unlimited Adventures (FRUA). A few improvements have been made over the original FRUA, 16/24/32-bit color, more levels allowed, editable items/monsters/spells, and the resulting design includes the game executable so that each design is playable without the editor. Other differences exist, but Developer have attempted to duplicate FRUA/Gold Box behavior as much as possible. Of course, suggested improvements have a good chance of making their way into the source code.
