I was surfing the web, and i admit i was pretty surprised to see the Free Orion Project still on track.. They recently released version 0.4.2
FreeOrion is a free, open source, turn-based space empire and galactic conquest (4X) computer game. FreeOrion is inspired by the tradition of the Master of Orion games, but is not a clone or remake of that series or any other game. For Windows XP, Vista, or 7; Mac OSX 10.6+, or Linux.
